Cousin cuteness

We have had the pleasure of watching my niece two or three days a week this past fall. Audrey loves it so much, that on the days we don't watch her, she says she misses Carrie. She is such a sweet little girl, and I love seeing she and Audrey interact. Carrie gives Audrey the biggest smile and excited expression.

One morning after decorating our tree Audrey practically begged me to get a picture of she and Carrie in front of our tree. I am so glad we did.

Baby Jurina

Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of meeting our spring baby. Everything looks well, and baby seems to be developing right on schedule. We look forward to meeting this precious little one in early March.

(not the first time he's blamed someone else for his doing, but makes me laugh every time)

Maw Mower

There's no denying, Liam LOVES lawn mowers. He's obsessed. He plays outside in our backyard, just to play next to the lawn mower. It was an obvious choice to get him a lawn mower of his own for his birthday.

He's two now...weighing in at 28lbs (50th percentile) and 34 inches tall (also 50th). If predictions are right, he will be 5' 8" as an adult and Audrey will be 5' 6", at least he'll have a couple inches on her. She always has been, and remains in the 90th percentile. Either way they'll both have me beat.

(we began to realize she was talking about a website, but was referring to it as fb. Shows how often that word is used in our house)

Bandit slipped through our fence, and was in our neighbor's yard. Audrey had pulled back some wires that was keeping a wide gap closed so that he couldn't get through.
Me: We need to be careful not to open that. Mr. Carl is afraid of Bandit and I don't want Bandit to think he needs to protect us and tries to bite Mr. Carl.
Liam: Bambit (pause) bite (pause) mmm cawl??
Liam: Bambit (pause) bite (pause) mmm cawl??
(he continued to say this throughout dinner. If you've seen Max and Ruby, we often refer to him as Max)

Exciting Changes

Yesterday Albert's official website for his photography went live! We are so excited to start this business, although still truly on the side. He has been enjoying the opportunities he has had to be pushed creatively. I am so proud of him. Check it out!

My grandmother is being moved to an assisted living home. Audrey was talking to her about her move.
Audrey: Why are you sad to move to your new home?
GG: Because I've lived in my home for 21 years.
Audrey: Sometimes people have to move to a new place.
Audrey: It's ok if you have to move, Grammy told me your new house is very pretty.
GG: When you're old like me people tell you what to do, and that's hard after you've made your own decisions for so many years.
Audrey: But they want to take care of you.
GG: I know, dearie. I know.
(This was such a precious conversation between the two of them, I want to remember it.)

Me: You need to learn how to play piano first.
Audrey: But I already do know how to play.

It's been almost a month since I've posted a Tiny Talk! Audrey and Liam continue their chatter and I've caught bits and pieces of what they've said. In his own way, Liam is adding to the humor of this house.

Audrey: There's a plant that grows to keep you from getting poison ivy, it's called "Touch me not"
(I'm thinking the name says it all)

While at a Children's Museum when visiting family, there was a space room. Audrey was speaking through the intercom to someone else (across the room).
Audrey: I was talking to a real space creature, I mean astronaut!
(The 'space creature's' name was Amy and she did a fantastic job playing with Audrey....thank you stranger, Amy!)

Recently Audrey and Liam were moved into the same room...by Audrey's request and to make space for an office.

helicopter - this word is so funny to hear him say...just a bunch of tongue twisters with 'lacter' at the end (much like he says 'tractor')

aaaeerrr - translated 'airplane'

Baaa-nana

dow - he has been saying 'moo' for any cow he sees and anytime we tell him to say cow, he would moo. We were happy to finally graduate to saying the animal's name rather than sound.

Bowling

To give a bit of background, we do a sticker chart highlighting Audrey's behavior, and at a certain point we reward her.  The reward is her choice, within specific parameters (Disney World is NOT an option, although she continues to try).  Bowling was her choice this time.  Watching a determined 4 year old bowl with a ball that is obviously too big for her made this trip so memorable.

I think we'll be doing this again sometime soon.  She had a great time, and by the end she was actually getting the hang of it, and bowled two spares all by herself!!  She improved her score by 22 points on the second game.  That's one determined little girl.

Me: That's ok, and it's ok if God doesn't want you to get married.
Audrey: But then I won't get a ring.

It's amazing to think a year ago this little man wanted nothing to do with being outside.

Look at him today! He's my gardening buddy, as long as I'm only digging up the dirt. Asking him to keep the dirt in place once the veggies are planted will be nearly impossible.

A few of our friends have recently had babies, so I asked Audrey if she would like to have another baby in our house...she's very quick to respond.
Audrey: NO!! I'm going to have the next baby, and it'll be a girl!

Audrey (4 1/2) and Liam (19 months) compete for talk time. Unfortunately for Liam, we still don't understand what he means, but he'll continue to tell everyone all about it.

We were rushing to get out the door Easter morning, and Liam decided then to have a blow out. Probably over a year since he's done that, and he chose Easter morning...

This post has been missed, by me, over the past couple of weeks...

Audrey still has much to say, and many funny things at that!

Me: (reading) "...you must go see the holy man"
Audrey: but I don't see any wholes on him.

Audrey talks to Daddy regularly on his way home from work. Usually about whatever she happens be doing at the time. This time she happened to be looking at the Pinocchio book.
Audrey: Old sharks sleep with their mouth open.

Al: (to me) We need to get rid of the rest of this lettuce it's going to get bad if it's not used soon.
Audrey: yeah, I can't eat this lettuce, if I take too long it won't be good anymore.

Liam: Bunket (translation - puppy, dog, or cat)

Audrey: I can shoot this through your whole body.
Daddy: Why can't it go through your body?
Audrey: Because I have army.
Daddy: Army, where?
Audrey: Right here (pointing to her shirt).
Daddy: Oh, you mean Armor.

Audrey says many funny things, but sadly the last couple of weeks I've been horrible about writing them down, and I CAN NOT rely on my brain...so....here's what I do remember...

During out loud prayer in our worship service on Sunday, the man behind us was praying...
Man: Thank you, Lord, for opening my blind eyes to see Your Light.
Audrey: (whispering LOUDLY) WAS HE BLIND?

Momma's Helper

It was a typical morning. I was cleaning the kitchen, Liam was headed upstairs to play, and Audrey was quietly reading a book to herself. It was a beautifully peaceful home.

Audrey announced she was going upstairs and the peace continued. This time I was a little more suspicious. Liam is not normally so quiet, let alone when the two are together. I had to go investigate...

changing Liam's diaper!!! What!?!?!







Was I really gone that long?? Audrey has helped me change Liam's diaper, and has even done the majority of a changing herself with my assistance....but to find her with him, changing pad out, wipes beside, and carefully changing a PO.OPIE diaper was not at all what I expected to see when I walked up. The best part being that Liam is completely still, letting his sister clean him. Now to teacher her how to change and clean the cloth diapers....

I'm so thankful for that little helper of mine. She loves to help!!

Audrey and Liam are both talkers in this house. While Liam is learning to form words from his constant chatter, Audrey keeps us laughing with her silly sayings.

Made with Love

So I recently learned to sew. I had a friend help me with basics, and then I watched some you tube clips to help me along. After making several pairs of wool diaper covers, I decided to brave it and make a 'simple' dress for Audrey. I figured, now is the time to do it, in a couple of years she won't be interested in wearing ANYTHING I make for her, no matter how nice.

I picked out a pattern, and she picked out the fabric. We picked two kinds of fabric, one which will be made to match a sweater my mom will make for her. Oh the pressure! The other fabric was my practice round. I'm SO glad I practiced. I learned a lot, mostly what NOT to do with my first dress, but Audrey loves it nonetheless. In fact, she told me she loved it so much she felt like a princess. The ultimate compliment! I'm not so excited about it, but the next dress will be even better.

Yes, I went with stripes on my first attempt, and messed up with the measurements on cutting (yeah, I think I jumped in too deep on this one). Thankfully the 2nd fabric is not stripes. Just don't look too closely. Regardless, I'm glad she loves it.

Me: I don't know what to make you for lunch if you're going to have mac n' cheese for dinner tonight.
Audrey: I could have gum...
Me: No...what about PBJ?
Audrey: No, it's too peanut butter and jellyish.

Surgery time...Audrey had to put the mask on her face.
Audrey: It smelled like monkey breath

Again...

Back in June, Audrey had to get her adenoids removed in hopes to help alleviate some fluid that persisted in her ears. After several months, we realized having the adenoids removed was not enough for her. We are heading back to the surgery center on Monday morning for ear tubes. She was brave the first time around, she's much more apprehensive the second time around. We are praying this is the last step in a long journey.

Audrey is no longer the main talker in the house, as Liam is doing his best to compete.

Audrey: I just thought about something I can do on the balance beam, and now I can do it!
(now...that's impressive, no practice needed!)

Audrey: (yelling) Watch out for the glass of broken olives!

I teach the 3-4 year old sunday school class...
Me: (to the class) What's inside your head?
Audrey: YOUR NUT!

Also in SS class, there was a new girl who began to speak half way through the class.
Audrey: (to the new girl...across the room) I didn't know you could talk!

Audrey had such a way with words this week, she literally had me rolling daily.

Audrey: I have super eyes! I can see all the way to your work (while still 30 mins away).
Me: Really! How do you do that?
Audrey: I open my eyes really wide and keep them that way, then I start to see things that other people can't see.
(hmmm...wouldn't that be hallucinations?)

A Glorious Day

On the morning of January 15th, little Liam sat through a book. Yes, as unbelievable as it sounds, he actually sat on my lap, with thumb in his mouth and teddy in his hand, and made it through an ENTIRE book, rather than barely a simple page.

Audrey is the talker in this house, for now, she's 4 and has much to say. Liam is 1, and is quickly adding to his vocabulary.

Aunt Becca: Are you going to drive?
Audrey: No.
Aunt Becca: Who's going to drive you where you want to go when you're older?
Audrey: My mommy and Daddy, and my husband.
(somehow I think she's too independent to let this happen)

Audrey: Mr. Caldwell likes to take pictures and Aunt Becca likes to walk
(not really sure how they connect, but she got their interests)

Audrey's made up song...

She is constantly singing and making up new songs. I wish I could capture them on video to cherish forever.

Audrey is ONE of the talkers in this house. Her brother Liam is quickly catching up to her, very quickly.

Audrey: (in the car) Oh that poor man!
Me: Why? What's wrong?
Audrey: He's walking all by himself!
Me: Well, maybe he's going to a friend's house, or he's just out for a walk.
Audrey: No, that's really sad!

Audrey: I'm going to marry Hunter
Me: Ok
Audrey: But I'm not going to live here anymore, I'm going to live at Hunter's house, so you'll need to take all my things to his house.
(I'm glad she still needs me)

We counted Liam's words this week, thinking he only had a few. We were surprised to realize he has 16 definite words. Guess we'll have two tiny talkers in this family.

Gymnastics

Audrey has taken gymnastics for 3 months now, and loves every bit of it. I love watching her do her "gymnastics" at home, and see how she's learning in class. She has no fear, and loves trying new things. Here she is on the rings in true gymnast form.


Liam also enjoys his time during gymnastics to climb on the balance beams, on the mini-slides, and other toddler gym equipment. This time tires out Liam, Audrey, and Mommy...but well worth it!
